Alan C. Hong (Student at Law)
Alan is a Student-at-Law at our Calgary office whose areas of focus include real estate, corporate-commercial transactions, wills and estates, and civil litigation. He is also keenly interested in intellectual property, employment and immigration matters.
Alan brings a wealth of experience from working and living in many parts of the world, including across Canada (Vancouver, Victoria, Kamloops, Calgary, Montreal and Quebec City), South Korea, China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Malaysia and Singapore. His proficiency in four languages – English, French, Korean and Mandarin Chinese – gives him the ability to relate and communicate effectively with clients, and better address their needs in culturally diverse settings.
Alan received his Juris Doctorate from Thompson Rivers University, where he actively participated in the Law Faculty’s Oral Advocacy Club, Environmental and Human Rights Negotiation Moot, and Lawcappellants. Notably, his pioneering work as a student clinician with TRU Community Legal Clinic has advanced access to justice for vulnerable societal groups including low-income families, people with disabilities, visible minorities and foreign nationals. Alan was also a recipient of the Law Foundation of British Columbia Entrance Scholarship and Law Dean’s Course Prizes in Business Associations, Basic Tax Law, and Digital Media Law.
Prior to pursuing his legal career, Alan spent five years in Seoul, South Korea working for the Korean Intellectual Property Office, British Columbia Trade and Investment Representative Office, and privately held international education management and consulting firms in various capacities, including senior and managerial positions.
Building upon his Bachelor of Arts in Political Science (International Relations) and East Asian Studies at McGill University, Alan’s graduate practicum with University of British Columbia’s Institute of Asian Research explored the prospects of multilateral trade cooperation in policy and law between Canada and Asia, focusing on development of strategic corporate governance regimes in South Korea.
Applying his breadth of knowledge in real world small and medium-sized to multinational business transactions, Alan takes a creative and practical approach to resolving issues or disputes in a cost-effective manner that best protects his clients’ interests. Delivering timely and quality results that give clients peace of mind is Alan’s top priority in practicing law and in every aspect of his work.
Outside of work, Alan is a gourmet, tech enthusiast, basketball aficionado and enjoys singing and playing guitar.
