Olivia Rees (Student at Law)
Olivia is a student-at-law at our Calgary office whose areas of focus include civil litigation, estate and tax planning, commercial transactions and real estate. She is also keenly interested in criminal defence and constitutional law.
She studied in England, where she was president of her university’s student law society and actively involved in mooting, negotiating and client interviewing competitions.
Olivia first joined Masuch Law as a summer student in 2015 and 2016. In 2017, Olivia returned to Canada and successfully completed all the mandatory Canadian law exams required by the National Accreditation Committee of the Federation of law Societies of Canada, and in the meantime, worked in the Real Estate department.
Olivia has been heavily involved in compliance, policy and research related to the Cannabis Act. She has been a keen advocate for commercial tenants and landlords, condominium boards and condominium owners requiring accommodation for their medical use of cannabis. She has advised on and written various bylaws regulating cannabis use and negotiated commercial leases needing particular attention due to the new, stigmatized and heavily regulated industry that is cannabis retail.
In her spare time, Olivia enjoys hiking, camping and traveling, with a focus on conquering high altitude climbs and scuba diving, which has taken her around Asia, Europe, Australia, and parts of Africa.
